A Guide for Dosing Your Dog with CBD

CBD (or cannabidiol) is one of 113 cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant. It treats everything from pain to anxiety and depression. Most CBD is from the hemp plant, which is a non-psychoactive variation of the cannabis plant. Both plants can produce CBD, but industrial hemp plants and therefore oil made from them oil does not contain any THC.

THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol), the most famous cannabinoid in cannabis, is the psychoactive compound that causes the high. CBD is not psychoactive and does not cause that effect. THC is not a good thing to administer to your pet, although both THC and CBD interact with cannabinoid receptors in the endocannabinoid system. CBD can provide your dog with several therapeutic benefits without the dangerous psychoactive effects of THC.

CBD and THC have similar effects for treating medical conditions. However, there is some variation in the uses of each substance. CBD is typically used to treat migraines, mental disorders or psychosis, inflammation, depression, anxiety, seizures, and inflammatory bowel disease. THC can be used to treat insomnia, loss of appetite, muscle spasticity, and glaucoma.

Dog Dosage

It can be confusing to determine the correct dose of CBD for your dog. It is a rather multidimensional calculation. First, the manufacturer’s dosing guidelines differ greatly because CBD potency varies. The dose also is determined by what condition you are treating, more serious conditions require higher doses. For occasional anxiety or for general well-being, somewhat lower doses are adequate. Your dog’s weight and pre-existing conditions should also be taken into account.

In order to calculate a safe and effective dose for your pet to treat significant medical issues like arthritis pain or to ease seizures, you need to calculate the number of milligrams of CBD based on their weight. You should administer 0.2mg of CBD per lb. So, for a 25 lb. dog, they can have 5mg of CBD.

You also need to calculate how much oil you should give your dog based on the mg of CBD in each milliliter of oil. This is determined by the formula strength you want to use. Some common formula strengths are as follows (based on a 30ml bottle).

  • 75mg formula=2.5mg of CBD per ml of oil
  • 150mg formula=5mg of CBD per ml of oil
  • 300mg formula=10mg of CBD per ml of oil
  • 600mg formula=20mg of CBD per ml of oil

In the event you opt for CBD dog treats, a reputable company will give you serving size suggestions based on your dog’s weight. But you can still use a calculation method to determine how many CBD treats for your dogs will be effective. Buy CBD for your dogs online. This is the best way to determine the best option from the varied selection available.

Treat Your Dog’s Anxiety with CBD Supplements

CBD (cannabidiol) the non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis, or hemp plants can provide your dog with several therapeutic benefits without the dangerous psychoactive effects of the more famous cannabinol THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is one of 113 cannabinoids, and it treats everything from anxiety and depression to chronic pain.

CBD Products for Pets

Much like humans, our dogs can suffer anxiety and stress. The reasons may be different than ours (fireworks, riding in a car, going to the veterinarian), but the effect is the same. The way they express their problems is also different. They may begin showing aggression, bark constantly, or chew on things they shouldn’t.

Other sources of anxiety in dogs, even to the point of PTSD, is being a stray, being rescued from difficult conditions, traveling, moving to a new home, or adjusting to new people or other pets. The reasons for anxiety are numerous. CBD is a viable alternative to anti-anxiety medication, which can have harmful side-effects.

Dogs Are Highly Sensitive

Dogs simply express anxiety differently. They may pant, pace, or bark to express fear.

  • CBD helps calm a dog’s fear. Addressing fear in a dog should be a combination of CBD and our ability to understand their fear in the first place. The idea that a dog can just get used to what scares them by the use of overexposure is as problematic as a human getting used to their arachnophobia or acrophobia. CBD is a great way to calm and relax as long as you understand the initial cause.
  • CBD helps with separation anxiety. The calming properties of CBD help dogs with separation anxiety and the resulting symptoms. Your dog is focused on you, so, typically they’ll pick up on you leaving them way ahead of when the time arrives that you do leave. Plan for this. Be sure to give your dog a proper dose of CBD early enough for it to take full effect by that time.
  • CBD improves the health of aging dogs. People with older animals that suffer from chronic pain, and many times cannot take traditional oral pain medications, have turned to CBD, seeing an improvement in their pet’s comfort and mobility. They either use CBD products in combination with traditional medication, or in place of it.

Like in humans, cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid receptors located throughout the nervous system. CBD maintains a normal healthy state of balance in the body. Dog owners have found that it treats pain, as well as helping to control seizures. There are also anti-inflammatory properties, cardiac benefits, appetite stimulation, anti-nausea properties, a positive effect on anxiety, and possibly anti-cancer benefits as well.

The CHF (Canine Health Foundation) is sponsoring a study through Colorado State University to study CBD for epilepsy in dogs. This will be the first study to gain data on the use of CBD in dogs.

Is CBD Beneficial for Your Cats and Dogs?

Our all-natural, organic CBD pet products are crafted with the highest quality ingredients for just the right benefits for the health and comfort of your cat or dog, no matter what size or breed.

Provide relief for your cat or dog if they’re suffering from anxiety and depression, as well as several painful inflammatory, or irritating skin conditions. Derived from hemp, CBD (or cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating compound that is appropriate for your pets because it provides effective therapeutic benefits without the psychoactive side effects of THC.

The Effect of CBD Products for Pets

Like humans, pets have endocannabinoid systems, so CBD has a similar effect on their wellness that it does on us. As our pets age, they can suffer many of the same issues that humans do. CBD has no known toxicity level so if used as directed, it is completely safe. As cats and dogs age, they can also begin to suffer from conditions such as decreased appetite, cancer, chronic pain, seizures, and arthritis.

We have the best CBD for dogs. Our CBD oil for dogs is specially formulated for dry irritated skin, to moisturize, soothe, and heal. They are also good for keeping noses and paw pads, or any area that can get dry and cracked, in great shape.

Treatment Dosage Guidelines

Work with your veterinarian before you treat your pet with CBD. You can administer the CBD orally or mix it in with their food. Start with lower doses. 2mg per 10lbs. once per day is a good place to start. If no ill effects are observed, you can increase the dose to twice per day.

If your CBD is derived from cannabis, and you’re using it on your pet, make sure it contains no more than 3% THC. All the CBD Authority CBD pet products include easy-to-follow directions for use. Animals metabolize faster than humans, so even if you feel that you are closely tuned in to how your pet is feeling, they are unable to verbalize their condition, so it is better to be on the safe side.

You can expect CBD treats for dogs to begin providing help for anxiety in about 30 minutes to 5 hours (as much as 4 weeks for chronic pain relief formulas). Although our dogs can’t identify exactly what is wrong, most of us can tell when something isn’t right, and when they’re feeling better. The rest is up to the vet.

At CBD Authority, we have flavors that your dog will love. We also have a range of doses for breeds of different sizes, making it much easier to buy CBD for dogs online. Since cats are more particular, it is also easier to shop for the right variety online as well. We have a CBD tincture, formulated exclusively for cats, it is the precise amount for smaller sizes and comes in vegan, chicken, or bacon flavor. Whether you are buying a CBD pet product that addresses stress and anxiety, or one that treats joint and mobility issues, we carry the one that suits them best.

What is Delta-8 THC?

What is Delta-8 THC?

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is a cannabis compound that has become popular because of its similarity to Delta-9 THC, the main compound in marijuana that gets you high, causing euphoria, happiness, sedation, symptom relief, and much more.

The similarities between the two cannabinoids lie in their chemical structures and their names. Delta-9 THC’s scientific name is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-9 THC, or just plain old Delta-9. Delta-8 is short for delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-8 THC.

Delta-8 THC can cause effects similar to Delta-9 THC—but they will be much less powerful.

Currently, the legality of Delta-8 THC is hazy. Because of the 2018 farm bill, hemp can be legally grown and used for extractions all over the United States, making Delta-8 THC legal in states where Delta-9 THC may be  illegal.

Nearly all Delta-8 THC on the market today is manufactured from hemp-derived CBD, which makes it, in theory at least, part of a federally legal chain of origin.

Will Delta-8 THC get you high?

Delta-8 THC will get you high, albeit not as high as common Delta-9 THC. Some consumers may even prefer cannabis products that aren’t as strong as common THC, even if they can legally obtain THC products. THC can cause negative effects for some, bringing on anxiety or paranoia. Delta-8 may offer a smoother, milder high.

How long does a Delta-8 THC high last?

A Delta-8 THC high will last as long as a high from regular THC, but the high will be less strong. How long it lasts depends on how much you consume—if you hit a vape or smoke Delta-8 flower, it can last an hour or more, and if you take some gummies, they can last a few hours.

Benefits of Delta-8 THC

Delta-8 THC is similar to Delta-9 THC and consumers can get some of the same benefits from consuming it. Some conditions Delta-8 can help with include:

  • Pain relief

  • Insomnia

  • Anxiety

  • Nausea

Effects of Delta-8 THC

Delta-8 THC consumers report many of the same effects as Delta-9 THC, such as mild euphoria, happiness, uplifting feelings, and relief from some symptoms such as pain, although the compound is much less potent. Delta-8 can also help with insomnia.

Side effects may be similar to those of Delta-9 THC, including dry mouth, red eyes, getting the munchies, short-term memory loss, paranoia, or anxiety. It’s important to note that Delta-8 THC hasn’t been studied extensively and more research is needed on the effects it has on the mind and body.

How much Delta-8 THC should I take?

For most people, especially moderate or experienced consumers, Delta-8 THC will feel much weaker than regular Delta-9 THC. If you are new to cannabis, Delta-8 THC could affect you strongly—it depends on your body chemistry. To give a sense of Delta-8 THC’s potency relative to Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC edible producers commonly measure and dose their gummies at more than twice the strength of Delta-9 THC gummies:

  • Delta-9 THC often comes in 10mg gummies—people may take half a gummy or a full gummy for a dose, either 5mg or 10mg.

  • Delta-8 THC gummies often come in 25mg gummies—so half of one would be 12.5mg, and a full gummy is 25mg.

In creating these standard gummies, producers are calculating that Delta-8 is less than half as strong as regular Delta-9 THC, so a 25mg Delta-8 THC gummy might equate to the effects of a 10mg Delta-9 THC gummy.

It’s always recommended to just take a little at first and then wait for the onset of effects before taking more. The consumption method will affect how quickly you feel those effects. If you’re vaping Delta-8 THC, you should feel the effects within ten minutes or less; if taking edibles, wait at least an hour or two before taking more.

Does Delta-8 THC show up on a drug test?

The short answer is: probably.

Research on Delta-8 THC is still in its infancy, so whether or not it will show up on a drug test is not fully known. As it is a cannabinoid similar to Delta-9 THC, or regular THC, we think it’s safe to assume that any test for Delta-9 THC will also show Delta-8 THC. But how the compound interacts with your body, how it differs from Delta-9 interactions, and how long it stays in your system is still unknown. If you know you are getting a drug test, it’s probably best to play it safe and abstain from consuming Delta-8 THC.

CBD & Your Pets

CBD & Your Pets

CBD & Your Pets

The endocannabinoid system is found in every mammal on earth! Which means that we can all experience the amazing benefits of CBD. The endocannabinoid system or ECS, is something that we share with our pets, meaning that the effects of CBD on humans and the effects on animals are just about the same.

The general fear for pet owners giving CBD to pets is associated with the fact that many people do not understand the key differences between CBD and THC. At first glance, it would appear as though CBD could have psychoactive effects on pets, similar to THC. However, we know that this is not the case. The main difference between CBD and THC is that CBD does not have any intoxicating effects. The feeling that THC gives us that we call a “high” is our body reacting to the psychoactive properties of the compound; and when ingested by pets, these effects can be dangerous or anxiety-inducing. Never give your pets any THC Edibles or Tinctures.

How Much CBD For My Furry Friend?

There is no clear-cut chart that will tell you how much CBD you should be giving your pets. Determining the serving size for your pets will be a bit more difficult because your pets can’t tell you how the dose is affecting them. Even physical indications from your pets may be too subtle to notice so always monitor them. The best way to  determine how much CBD to give your pet is based on weight. 1mg for every 10lbs seems the standard dose recommended by most CBD companies. Meaning that a 20lb dog should start with 2mg. Now, every animal is different and depending on the severity of the issue being treated it may call for a larger dose. I recommend increasing by .5mg every 4-5 days until you start seeing improvement. Bigger, heavier animals will need higher amounts of CBD to feel the effects than smaller, lighter animals. A Chihuahua and a Thoroughbred should not be taking the same amount of CBD.

Can Pets Have Human CBD or Will it Hurt Them?

Your CBD and your pet’s CBD are extracted from hemp plants in the same way. There is no structural difference between the CBD that you and your pet consume. But, the answer to this question is a bit complicated. Your pet can consume your CBD, as long as it does not include any additives specific to humans but not animals. But you have to be very careful not to give them a concentration that’s identical to what you would personally take. To avoid running into this situation simply use a pet-focused CBD product when treating your animals, and always consult a licensed veterinarian before starting any treatment for your furry family members.
